Our chickens arrived at the centre today…
As ex battery hens they came from the British Hen Welfare Trust, who rehome hens who have come to the end of their working lives. This just means that they aren’t laying every day but they are still laying enough to keep us in lots of eggs. Most are still under a year old.
The eight hens came from Oswestry and will spend tonight locked away in their new home to get over the shock of the move. Life will be very different with lots more space and freedom to act like chickens should.
They look quite bad with pale combs and lots of feathers missing but this should change in the next few weeks as they re feather and get to see the rain and grass – something very new to them.
